Since the pandemic, many designers have been working from home. It’s been a shift, but sometimes, it leads to moments you’d never expect.
One Saturday afternoon, while I was at my desk tweaking a project, my 4-year-old daughter walked in. She glanced at my screen and, with the most serious little face, asked, “Can you make me something cute?” And then she gave me those wide, pretty please eyes that says, “I’m your kid, and you love me, you can't say no"
So I said, “Okay. Let’s do it.”
We spent the whole weekend afternoon scrolling through 3D assets, picking out colors, and building this cute little scene together. (Okay, mostly me—she’s four. But she had opinions.)
Fast lighting. Quick global illumination. Directional lights. Render. Then print. From daddy to Hana.
She stared at it in awe for a whole minute—probably a record for a toddler. Then, with the wisdom of someone far beyond her years, she turned to me and said: “Can we make that into an airplane?”
And that’s when I knew no matter what you make, a kid will always want to take it to the next level.
